A stunning performance was delivered by Lewis Hamilton at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez during the thrilling qualifying session of the Mexico City Grand Prix. The Scuderia Ferrari superstar set the pace to secure the 105th pole position of his illustrious career in the premier class, marking his very first pole for the iconic Italian constructor.

This achievement ends a pole drought for the British driver dating back to the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix when he was still driving for Mercedes. It is also his second pole position at the Mexican circuit following his previous success in 2016. At 41 years old, Hamilton becomes the oldest F1 pole-sitter since Mario Andretti in Monza back in 1982, who also drove for Ferrari.

For the Maranello-based squad, this represents their 255th Formula 1 pole, their first of the current season, and the first since the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix secured by Charles Leclerc. Historical trends heavily favor Hamilton heading into Sunday's main race, as the previous four Grands Prix have all been won from pole position.

"Man, I am speechless! I cannot put into words how good this feels. It has been damn long!" Hamilton exclaimed after the intense qualifying session.

"This has not been the easiest weekend for us. First, I had to run aero tests, then we had an engine issue and I lost 30 minutes of practice time. I always felt like I was playing catch-up."

"However, the team did a really good job with the set-up. But it was so damn close up there at the front. My lap to secure pole wasn't even completely clean. My first pole with Ferrari, I cannot believe it," he continued.

When reminded that he is now the oldest pole-sitter since Mario Andretti in 1982, Lewis laughed and stated, "Where there's a will, there's a way! It's all in the mind. I try to keep myself as fit and young as possible, but above all, it is the love for the sport that keeps me young."
