Wheel-to-wheel action erupted immediately as the lights went out at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Charles Leclerc found himself locked in an intense opening-lap battle right at the very front of the Formula 1 Mexico City Grand Prix field.
The Monegasque driver launched a daring outside move approaching Turn 4, but Lewis Hamilton stood his ground firmly. Refusing to back down, Leclerc was forced to take to the runoff area, cutting the chicane to avoid a heavy collision.
The drama escalated quickly further down the sequence when reigning world champion Max Verstappen capitalized on Hamilton's sluggish exit out of Turn 6. Verstappen swept past the Briton, while Leclerc managed to hold onto the race lead ahead of the Dutchman and his teammate.

Securing the lead allowed the Ferrari charger to run in clean air, a vital strategic advantage. However, the stewards quickly placed the opening-lap incident under investigation, ultimately handing Leclerc a five-time penalty rather than the harsher ten-second guideline.
The sanction sparked immediate tension over team radio. Hamilton vented his frustration on the team airwaves immediately after the clash, bluntly stating that he was forced wide off the track by his own teammate.
