Lando Norris Claims Dramatic Brazilian Grand Prix Victory as Mercedes Secures Constructors Crown

Lando Norris survived a late downpour and intense early pressure to secure McLaren's first race win in three months at a chaotic Brazilian Grand Prix. The triumph carried an even greater significance as Mercedes officially sealed the Formula 1 constructors' championship despite failing to land a single driver on the podium.

The race at Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace Interlagos delivered immediate drama when the lights went out. Kimi Antonelli rocketed past the polesitter on the run toward Turn 1, while Liam Lawson quickly demoted the McLaren charger down to third place in the opening skirmishes.

Although Norris managed to wrestle second place back from Lawson shortly after, Antonelli had already built a comfortable cushion at the front of the field. Teams and drivers nervously watched the radar, waiting for the pivotal crossover moment to switch from intermediate rain tyres to dry slick compounds.

McLaren executed a masterclass in strategy by calling their driver into the pits a lap earlier than the leading Mercedes. That decisive undercut massively closed the gap, placing immense pressure on the young Italian rookie as he struggled to generate operating temperatures in his soft tyres.

A costly mistake on his second lap saw Antonelli spin at Turn 1, handing the race lead on a silver platter to the chasing McLaren. The error triggered a rapid slide down the order as Red Bull pair Isack Hadjar and Max Verstappen quickly capitalized to pick him off.

From that moment onward, Norris remained completely unthreatened at the front. He built such a commanding advantage that even a late-race rain shower forcing another switch back to intermediate tyres failed to loosen his iron grip on the victory.

The result marks the first trip to the top step of the podium for both driver and team since their dominant weekend at Zandvoort in late August. Verstappen and Hadjar completed the rostrum after exceptional recovery drives through the field.

Further back, George Russell managed to beat his teammate for the first time since Baku in September. Despite suffering a bizarre spin in the pitlane following a tyre change, Russell recovered brilliantly by executing a single stint on slick tyres while others required two.

Fourth and fifth place finishes proved more than enough for the Silver Arrows to clinch their first constructors' title since 2021 with three rounds remaining. Meanwhile, Ferrari endured a difficult afternoon trying to salvage points in mixed conditions.

Starting down in 20th place, Lewis Hamilton produced a sensational opening-lap charge to break into the top ten. However, he later struggled for pace on his intermediates and even lost a position to veteran Fernando Alonso.

Hamilton was the first driver brave enough to gamble on slick tyres, recovering some ground before another late spin forced him into the pitlane for intermediates once more. He ultimately crossed the finish line in ninth position behind Lawson and Charles Leclerc.

In the battle for the final points-paying positions, Nico Hulkenberg secured tenth place for Audi despite serving a ten-second time penalty for running wide during an intense wheel-to-wheel fight with Franco Colapinto.
