Lando Norris shouldered the blame entirely for what he described as a terrible job during a dramatic Formula 1 qualifying session for the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. The reigning world champion was demoted to eighth on the grid after race control deleted his fastest lap time due to a track limits violation.
The costly mistake initially looked set to place him sixth, but running wide over the white lines stripped him of valuable time and dropped him behind his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri. Track limits proved to be a major talking point throughout the entire weekend, catching out several competitors during both practice and qualifying.
Despite the widespread difficulties faced by the grid, the British driver refused to lean on excuses. When asked about the challenging nature of the track limits in Austin, he bluntly admitted his disappointment with his own execution and confessed that his MCL40 charger is easily the hardest car he has ever driven in his life.

While acknowledging that the machinery possessed the raw pace to comfortably fight for the front rows, he highlighted how nasty and unforgiving the handling characteristics remain. Looking ahead to race day, he expressed lingering faith in securing a strong result despite acknowledging severe struggles through the slow-speed corners in sector three.
The team arrived in Texas aiming to close the gap to their rivals with a fresh upgrade package, yet finding a compliant setup window remains an ongoing battle. As the lights prepare to go out, attention now shifts to his ability to carve through the field from the fourth row.
