The ambitious motorsport project spearheaded by Formula 1 star Lando Norris has reached a major milestone after his newly formed racing outfit officially secured its place on the Formula 2 grid starting in the 2027 season. The squad will enter the championship as the sole new entrant for the upcoming 2027-2029 regulatory cycle, while the remaining ten incumbent teams will continue their operations from the current campaign.
This crucial approval comes in the wake of the LN4 Fusion operation being launched back in September. The newcomer officially takes over the championship slot and selected assets previously held by AIX Racing, and the organization is set to compete under an Italian racing licence. With this addition, Formula 2 will maintain its established grid format consisting of 11 teams running two cars apiece, resulting in a competitive field of 22 drivers.
Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel revealed that the championship had drawn considerable interest from a wide array of prospective outfits prior to the finalization of the selection process. Expressing his enthusiasm, Michel welcomed the incoming squad to the championship paddock. "I am also pleased to welcome LN4 Fusion to the grid. They will bring considerable expertise, and I am confident they will make a valuable contribution to the championship," Michel stated regarding the new entry.
The successful F2 entry advances a comprehensive racing project established by Norris in collaboration with karting outfit Fusion Motorsport and financial backers spearheaded by Dan Richards, with broader ambitions set across multiple junior single-seater categories. LN4 CEO Dan Richards noted that locking down the entry brings the organization significantly closer to the lofty goals established during its initial launch phase. "We are incredibly proud to have been selected to join the FIA Formula 2 grid for 2027," Richards remarked.
Despite celebrating the successful bid, Richards remained grounded regarding the immense workload required ahead of their debut. "We recognise the level of competition in Formula 2 and the challenge ahead of us," he added. "Our focus is now firmly on building the right foundations, surrounding ourselves with exceptional people and giving our drivers and team the best possible opportunity to compete at the highest level." On the operational front, former Prema boss Rene Rosin takes charge as team principal for the European operation, alongside former technical chief Guillaume Capietto as racing director. While F2 drivers remain unannounced, the team has already confirmed James Egozi, Gabriel Gomez, and Dion Gowda for its 2027 Formula 3 campaign.
