Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Andrea Kimi Antonelli secured the first victory of his Formula 1 career after winning the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit. The young Mercedes driver delivered a composed performance to take a landmark win in his rookie season.
The triumph also places Antonelli as the second-youngest race winner in Formula 1 history, with only Max Verstappen having achieved the feat at a younger age. The 19-year-old Italian led a dominant one-two finish for Mercedes, with team-mate George Russell crossing the line in second place.
Russell’s strong consistency at the start of the season means he now leads the drivers’ championship by a single point over Antonelli. The result underlines Mercedes’ competitive pace early in the 2026 campaign.

Third place went to Lewis Hamilton, who secured his first podium finish for Ferrari. The result came at the 26th attempt since Hamilton joined the Maranello squad, marking an important milestone in his partnership with the Italian team.
Hamilton’s team-mate Charles Leclerc finished fourth after a steady race, while rising talent Oliver Bearman delivered an impressive fifth-place finish for Haas.
The race in Shanghai was also marked by significant drama across the field. Both McLaren cars, driven by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, were unable to start the race due to electrical issues before the formation lap.
Meanwhile, reigning world champion Verstappen was forced to retire late in the race after encountering problems with his Red Bull Racing car. A similar fate befell Fernando Alonso, whose race ended prematurely for Aston Martin.
Antonelli’s breakthrough victory in Shanghai represents a significant moment in the 2026 Formula 1 season. Beyond delivering Mercedes a crucial win, the result highlights the arrival of a new generation of drivers capable of challenging at the front of the championship.
