Aprilia MotoGP rider Jorge Martin feels the 2026 title is already lost following his premature withdrawal from the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend. The Spaniard sustained a distal radius fracture during a crash in the Phillip Island sprint, yet made a desperate return just six days later at Sepang in an effort to minimize championship damage against points leader Marc Marquez.
However, reality set in after three sessions, forcing him to call off his weekend following Saturday morning practice. The pain barrier proved insurmountable for the reigning world champion.
"I tried, I tried my best, I tried to ride, but for sure the process of healing is still early," he explained afterwards.

"The healing is going really fast, but not enough to be efficient on the bike. I felt that I could ride with almost no pain, but for maybe one lap. After that I started to have a lot of pain, I couldn't be constant, so watching a bit the laptimes and my performance, we decided to stop, to try to wait."
Reflecting on his past injuries, Martin admitted that forcing a comeback too soon—similar to his difficult return in Qatar previously—taught him a harsh lesson. Rather than risking a worse injury, he opted for safety. Although he considers the championship fight over, Martin confirmed his intention to return and test his physical condition once again at the upcoming round in Qatar.
