Uncertainty continues to surround Joan Mir and his upcoming participation in the premier class as the 2020 world champion admits he may skip the next round in Qatar. The lingering health issues that previously forced him out of four consecutive grands prix have flared up once again during the race weekend in Malaysia.
The Spanish rider had returned to competitive action at Sepang after battling severe fatigue and vision complications that sidelined him following the San Marino round. However, his promising return was cut short on Sunday when he was forced to pull his Honda machine into the pit lane after experiencing a sudden recurrence of blurry vision.
Speaking to media outlets after the race, Mir expressed his profound frustration and worry over the physical setback. "I've started to see blurry again and to lose control of the situation," he stated while detailing the frightening moments on track.

"I've withdrawn due to some issues that hadn't appeared in the last few races. I'm disappointed, because I thought I'd be in better shape. It's clear that the conditions out there today were extremely tough, but we've worked really hard to try to arrive in the best possible shape, and I really thought it wouldn't happen to me again," Mir explained.
He further elaborated that the scary symptoms struck right around the halfway mark of the grand prix after completing only nine or ten laps. Knowing the risks involved, he immediately elected to stop in accordance with the safety protocols pre-arranged with his crew.
"Before it got any worse, I stopped because that's what we'd agreed. I'm disappointed and also a bit worried," he added, reflecting the high-stress environment inside the team garage as engineers analyze the physical toll of the modern premier class machines.
Regarding his prospects for the upcoming trip to Lusail, Mir confessed that he remains completely in the dark as he awaits further medical evaluations. The situation adds to an increasingly depleted grid amid various paddock controversies and injuries.
"Right now, I have more questions than answers," Mir admitted when asked about his status for Qatar. "The reality is a bit like what I've told you: I only know what I'll discuss with the doctors, what happened to me, and how I've felt."
"From here on, they'll decide if more tests need to be done, if we need to continue with the treatment we were on... I don't know. They had told me before coming that it could happen, but you don't believe it until it happens again," he concluded.
With a potential absence in Qatar looming alongside other rider withdrawals across the championship, the paddock faces an unprecedented logistical and competitive puzzle as the season enters its final stretch.
