As the demanding world championship season enters its final stretch, Joan Mir has officially outlined his intended return date to grand prix racing following a frustrating spell on the sidelines due to an ongoing health battle.

The physical struggles for the 2020 MotoGP world champion first surfaced back in September during the San Marino Grand Prix weekend, where he candidly revealed to the paddock media that he was operating at a mere 50 percent of his maximum energy levels.

The alarming fatigue levels prompted Honda to release a statement ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix confirming that their factory rider would sit out the event, utilizing Takaaki Nakagami as a replacement to gather crucial telemetry data.

The forced hiatus continued as the Spaniard was subsequently forced to miss the Japanese Grand Prix, where Somkiat Chantra stepped in, followed by a dramatic weekend in Indonesia where Aleix Espargaro flew in to race only to withdraw prior to the Sprint race.

The Japanese manufacturer's replacement nightmare reached its peak ahead of the Australian Grand Prix weekend when all standard test and reserve options were completely unavailable, compounded further when Luca Marini was struck down by a sudden viral infection on Friday.

Amidst the mounting selection crisis within the garage, positive news arrived as the Majorcan rider took to social media to share an encouraging photograph of himself posing alongside his flat track training motorcycle, signaling significant progress in his physical rehabilitation.

The social media post was accompanied by a clear caption stating See you in Malaysia, strongly indicating that the former world champion fully expects to rejoin the grid next weekend at Sepang, a venue where he successfully clinched a memorable podium finish last season.

The upcoming Malaysian Grand Prix will mark the beginning of the final four-race stretch for the rider aboard the factory machine before he officially concludes his four-year tenure with the marquee manufacturer and makes his high-profile switch to Gresini.

Regarding the status of his teammate, uncertainty remains regarding when the Italian rider will be cleared to make his competitive comeback following a rigorous medical assessment by the championship's traveling medical personnel over the race weekend.

MotoGP chief medical officer Angel Charte explained the severity of the situation on Saturday, stating that the rider had been battling a viral condition and high fever for several days, leading to significant muscle weakness affecting both upper and lower extremities.
