Qualifying for the 2026 Italian Grand Prix delivered a major shock as Pierre Gasly and Alpine beat George Russell and the rest of the Formula 1 frontrunners to claim pole position.
But the starting grid wasn't set in stone after Q3, as three grid penalties for engine component changes were applied to Kimi Antonelli, Alex Albon, and Liam Lawson. Additionally, Oscar Piastri, who qualified third, received a three-place grid drop for impeding Lawson in Q2.
Penalty Shakes Up Front Row Battle
Piastri's penalty reshuffles the front row significantly. Gasly leads, followed by Russell and the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. Max Verstappen moves up to fifth, while Piastri drops to sixth.

This opens a huge opportunity for the top teams to fight for a podium at Ferrari's home race. The pressure is now on Gasly to hold off the title contenders.
Midfield and Rear Shuffle
In the midfield, Franco Colapinto (Alpine) rises to seventh, followed by Lando Norris (McLaren) and Arvid Lindblad (Racing Bulls). Gabriel Bortoleto (Audi) completes the top ten. Meanwhile, the engine-penalized drivers will start from the back, drastically altering their race strategies.
The race at Monza promises to be intense with so many grid changes. Can Gasly convert his pole into victory? Or will Verstappen and the Ferraris overtake at the legendary first corner? Watch the Italian Grand Prix to find out.
