A familiar name at the top of the timesheet did not tell the whole story of a dramatic Friday practice at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace Interlagos during the Brazilian GP. While some frontrunners found themselves wrestling with unexpected balance issues, others capitalized on major technical developments to kick off the race weekend on a high note.
Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton could only manage sixth and seventh places respectively, marking the first time all season that Ferrari finished outside the top five on a Friday timing screen. Leclerc did not hold back in his assessment, describing the machinery as feeling extremely poor and strange through the corners.
"We were losing in the straights, but I think the car in the corners just felt probably one of the worst Friday feelings of the season," Leclerc said after stepping out of the cockpit. "So I think there's a lot to be found in corners, more than in the straights, where we know we have a deficit. Normally we are very fast in corners and today was not the case."

Team principal Fred Vasseur joked that the cars felt heavy with excess fuel due to the uncharacteristic timesheet positions, but quickly turned serious to address the balance woes. Vasseur noted that minor deployment glitches and a completely different asphalt abrasive nature compared to the previous week in Mexico added to their workload.
Meanwhile, McLaren enjoyed a productive day on track as their latest upgrade package, spearheaded by a redesigned front wing, proved effective. Lando Norris acknowledged that while they still had a gap to close against the front-running pace, the new parts successfully alleviated some of the car's traditional handling edginess.
