IndyCar 2027: First Eight Races Confirmed, St. Pete Remains Opener

IndyCar has confirmed the dates and venues for the first eight races of the 2027 season. The early slate closely mirrors this year's schedule, with only minor tweaks following what has been widely considered a successful early-season format.

The season opener will once again take place on the streets of St. Petersburg on March 7. Three races will run on consecutive weekends to start the year, just as in 2026. After Florida, drivers will be tested at Phoenix Raceway and the Streets of Arlington in quick succession.

The Phoenix race will be held on Saturday, as the series again joins NASCAR for a joint racing weekend. This provides a unique spectacle for fans who can witness two major series at the same venue.

Following that, Barber Motorsports Park returns on April 4, followed by Long Beach on April 18 for the 43rd running of the iconic event. The traditional Month of May remains intact: a race on the IMS road course, Indianapolis 500 qualifying the following weekend, and the famous race itself on May 30.

Detroit is also confirmed for June 6, right after the Indianapolis 500. All races in 2027 will be broadcast live on over-the-air FOX channels, as has been the case since FOX became the broadcast partner.

Additionally, there will be two open tests: the Unser IndyCar Open Test on February 23-24 at Phoenix, and the Indianapolis 500 Open Test on May 4-5. The second half of the calendar is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
