The future of Hyundai in the World Rally Championship has taken another dramatic turn following an intensive testing program involving several high-profile drivers. French star Adrien Fourmaux was spotted driving Hyundai's Rally2 car on Friday, adding fuel to ongoing paddock speculations regarding his next career move.
According to reports from RallyJournal, Fourmaux's test session had been agreed well in advance during the heat of Rally Finland. The Frenchman previously competed in Hyundai's Rally1 machinery last season, making this latest outing particularly intriguing despite recent swirling rumors linking him closely with a switch to Ford.
The intensive five-day test program conducted by the Korean manufacturer also featured experienced veterans Kris Meeke and Hayden Paddon, both of whom tested the Hyundai earlier in the week. Deploying three distinct drivers across a rigorous schedule strongly suggests that the brand is actively evaluating ways to continue its rallying operations moving forward.
However, major questions still linger over the exact nature of their future involvement in the championship. Industry insiders remain uncertain whether Hyundai will commit to staying as a full factory works team or pivot towards a customer-focused support model similar to Skoda's approach in national and international series.
With the motorsport community eagerly awaiting a definitive statement, these recent developments underscore how crucial the upcoming weeks will be for the driver market and team strategies. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as the 2026 season preparations unfold.
