Hyundai's ongoing test program in Central Finland has kept the motorsport world guessing, with New Zealand driver Hayden Paddon stepping into testing duties to push the car through its paces throughout the week.

Major questions continue to surround the exact machinery the manufacturer will deploy to compete in the World Rally Championship under the upcoming 2027 technical and sporting framework. The lack of concrete details has fuelled continuous paddock chatter regarding their long-term competitive strategy.

During previous appearances in Sardinia, team principal Cyril Abiteboul refrained from confirming whether the outfit is actively developing a conversion kit for its Rally2 contender. Under projected rules, vehicles equipped with these kits will be cleared to fight in the premier class alongside dedicated WRC27 machines.

Addressing the complex situation, Abiteboul emphasized that the squad is carefully weighing multiple avenues before committing to a definitive path. He underscored that sporting rules carry immense weight in shaping corporate identity and brand storytelling.

"I think there are still a number of possibilities. There are still a number of things that we need to understand about this opportunity. That’s what we need to assess," Abiteboul stated.

"You refer to the technical regulations. Technical regulations are important, but as far as I’m concerned, the sporting regulations are even more important because they determine how the brand will compete, how it will appear in public and the story that we can tell around this involvement."

"I’m almost less interested in the kit than everything else that is yet to come."

While recent weeks brought whispers suggesting active development on the conversion kit front, no such hardware has made an appearance during the current test schedule in Finland. Industry assessments indicate that the physical realization of the kit remains highly doubtful as testing continues.
