Kenny Habul is returning to Suzuka with a bigger ambition. The Australian driver isn't just aiming to participate in the prestigious Suzuka 1000km; he wants to bring his team an outright victory. For the 2025 edition, he will be joined by Phillip Ellis and Mikael Grenier under the 75 Express banner.
They will be one of three Mercedes-AMG GT3s in the event, alongside a pair of Craft-Bamboo Racing entries in Pro and Pro-Am. This isn't Habul's first taste of the legendary Japanese circuit; he has competed there three times in the Intercontinental GT Challenge, in 2018, 2019, and 2025.
Together with Grenier, Habul won the Pro-Am class in the 10-hour edition in 2019, and took the Silver Cup a year later with Nico Bastian. "Kenny and I have already raced together there twice and achieved some strong results," said Grenier. "It's always a pleasure to share a car with him, and he consistently puts together a very competitive line-up. We'll be racing in the Pro class, so it's going to be an extremely intense event. As always, our goal is the victory."
The limited Mercedes-AMG presence at Suzuka is largely due to a clash with DTM and NLS in Germany. However, Stefan Wendl, head of Mercedes-AMG customer racing, is optimistic about the line-up. "Despite the scheduling clash with the DTM and the Nurburgring Endurance Series (NLS), we have been able to put together an experienced line-up for the Suzuka 1000km with Craft-Bamboo Racing and 75 Express," he said.
Wendl also emphasized that Suzuka Circuit suits the Mercedes-AMG GT3 very well. "The Suzuka Circuit suits the Mercedes-AMG GT3 very well. In particular, the first two sectors, with their many medium-speed corners, allow the car to play to its strengths." The Suzuka 1000km takes place on September 11-13. The team also unveiled a taxi-themed livery for the event, adding a distinctive visual touch to the grid.
