Tim Leahey is set to return to the GT4 Australia grid after a hiatus, partnering with Porsche star Dylan O'Keeffe in the Silver-Am Cup. The duo will pilot the #22 BMW M4 prepared by Ashley Seward Motorsport (ASM).
Leahey is no stranger to the series. Since 2024, he has been a regular in the Silver Cup, racing solo and alongside Cody Burcher. Despite missing two rounds in 2024, he still finished third in the championship with three victories. He added another win in 2025, but sat out the 2026 season while Burcher shifted focus to Super2. Now, Leahey is back.
“I always get itchy feet and I need to go racing,” Leahey said. “I need to blow the cobwebs out and get some sanity, which is funny [that] I find that by racing, but I do.” He completed a test day in the BMW a couple of weeks ago to get back up to speed before deciding to race in Sydney.
O'Keeffe's addition adds star power. The Porsche Carrera Cup Australia champion will make his GT4 Australia debut, but he is familiar with ASM. “I really enjoy racing at Sydney, and with the current Carrera Cup schedule not going there this year, it made a lot of sense,” O'Keeffe said. “I’ve also got a bunch of sponsors in Sydney, so it ticks a lot of boxes for me and I’m excited to get racing.”
O'Keeffe knows Leahey well. “I know Tim pretty well. I raced TCR with Ashley Seward Motorsport back in 2024, and Tim was racing the BMW out of the same trailer, so I’ve known him for a little while. He’s a cool dude and has a lot of experience around the paddock, so I’m looking forward to working with him,” he added. Although he has limited experience with BMW machinery, O'Keeffe is confident. “I used to have an M4 of the same model, so I’m sure I know how to drive it, but this car will obviously be a bit different. Hopefully we can extract some good performance from it.”
Leahey believes tyre management will be crucial at Sydney Motorsport Park. “The BMW is not far off the other makes in the field, so you just need the cards to fall your way. I think the most important thing at Sydney Motorsport Park will be to get the M4 to look after its tyres and certainly that responsibility lies with the driver in the first stint,” he explained.
With Leahey's experience and O'Keeffe's speed, the pair could be a dark horse in the Silver-Am Cup. GT4 Australia is known for its competitiveness and diverse experience levels, and both drivers are ready for the challenge.
