Fred Vasseur has openly admitted that Ferrari's failure to maximize its full one-lap potential during qualifying cost the team a potential Formula 1 victory at the United States Grand Prix. The Italian outfit looked like the absolute team to beat after topping all practice sessions in Austin, only to stumble when it mattered most in Q3.
Strong race pace was later demonstrated by Charles Leclerc as he charged to a brilliant second-place finish behind the Mercedes charger, while his teammate narrowly missed out on a podium spot.
"The weekend went well and everything is working well as expected on the package," Vasseur stated.

"The issue is that we did all the laps, from the first laps of FP1 to the last lap of the race, in good shape. Except the last two laps of Q3 on both cars, and it's probably where we missed something," he added.
Vasseur further explained that the operating window for modern F1 cars and tyres is extremely narrow, meaning a tiny margin can drastically alter the final grid positions.
