The battle in the service park at Rally Paraguay heated up early on Sunday morning. Adrien Fourmaux, the Hyundai driver, managed to leapfrog Elfyn Evans in the overall standings after a slippery SS18, while rally leader Sami Pajari continues to hold a firm grip with a comfortable margin.
The 10-kilometre Encarnacion stage was the stage for early drama. Sebastien Ogier, starting third on the road, set the fastest time. His rally was already ruined on Friday, so his focus now is on securing valuable points from Super Sunday and the Power Stage later today. "The beginning is really fast, but the final section is already getting very muddy," Ogier said, and his prediction proved accurate.
The first three cars on the road filled the top three positions, with Thierry Neuville in second and Takamoto Katsuta in third. However, several drivers complained about additional anti-cut devices installed on the stage after the recce, adding to the challenge.
The main focus was on the fight for third place. Fourmaux recorded the fifth-fastest time, and with Elfyn Evans losing over five seconds to him, Fourmaux moved up to third overall. "The opening section didn't feel bad, but I really struggled on this final section. We'll keep fighting," Evans said.
Rally leader Sami Pajari conceded 2.6 seconds to Hayden Paddon, but his advantage remains comfortable. "It's no disaster, but it wasn't the best start. It was really muddy, especially on the final section," Pajari commented. Ogier currently leads Super Sunday ahead of Neuville and Katsuta, with Solberg fourth and Fourmaux fifth. Four special stages remain on Sunday, promising more drama and potential shifts in the standings.
