Formula 1 still firmly intends to conclude the 2026 season with races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi as planned, despite ongoing security standoffs and a major power struggle in MotoGP. Team principals have expressed complete trust in the championship and governing body to navigate the sensitive geopolitical situation safely.
The controversy escalated after Yamaha made a bombshell decision to withdraw from the upcoming motorcycle Grand Prix in Qatar amid growing safety concerns over regional conflicts involving the US, Israel, and Iran. With a significant majority of riders reportedly signing a letter raising security apprehensions, questions naturally arose regarding the safety of the upcoming automotive double-header organized by Liberty Media.
However, according to reports emerging during the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend, F1 reaffirmed to all teams that the season finale schedule remains entirely unchanged. Travel and insurance advisories remain steady, and officials noted that no civilian infrastructure attacks have been recorded in the host nations since May. Crash.net understands that only a severe escalation would force management to alter its current logistical trajectory.

Weighing in on the delicate matter, Red Bull Racing team principal Laurent Mekies emphasized that teams rely heavily on official directives. "It is typically the task of the governing body and the championship to approach it with a full set of information and give us the right direction," Mekies stated, reinforcing confidence in past handling of similar situations.
Echoing those sentiments, Williams team boss James Vowles noted the strong communication channels between stakeholders. Meanwhile, drivers like Carlos Sainz have maintained a cautious stance, leaving the final safety assessments entirely in the hands of the FIA as the paddock prepares for the final stretch of the championship.
