Two-time world champion Emerson Fittipaldi has shared his sharp perspective regarding the sudden resurgence of the Milton Keynes squad in the latter stages of the 2026 Formula 1 season. According to the legendary Brazilian driver, the Silver Arrows squad featuring Andrea Kimi Antonelli can consider themselves fortunate that their main rival's competitive surge arrived far too late in the year.
This turning point comes after the RB22 machine was initially projected to endure an anonymous 2026 campaign devoid of single grand prix victories. However, the narrative shifted dramatically when four-time world champion Max Verstappen delivered a masterclass across Malaysia and Singapore, securing three consecutive pole positions and converting all of them into race wins.
This dominance was particularly striking given the contrasting nature of the venues, spanning from the sweeping layout of Sepang to the tight confines of Marina Bay. The Dutch driver notably conquered the streets of Singapore for the very first time, sealing a maiden triumph at a Grand Prix circuit where he had previously never stood on the top step.

Reflecting on these recent dominant displays, Fittipaldi suggested that the championship battle could have turned into a chaotic title fight reminiscent of previous seasons if this level of competitiveness had been unlocked during the early rounds of the calendar year.
According to FormulaPassion, Fittipaldi highlighted the turning point by stating that Max Verstappen has been truly impressive over the last two Grands Prix, noting that Mercedes can count themselves lucky this performance surge did not happen in the first part of the season. The squad woke up too late, leaving fans eager to see if the RB22 can maintain this high level of performance moving towards 2027.
