The Hyperpole battle at WEC Austin ended in maximum tension. Antonio Giovinazzi secured pole position for Ferrari after setting an identical time to rival Jack Aitken of Cadillac.
Giovinazzi, driving the #51 Ferrari 499P, was fastest with a 1m52.445s lap. However, Aitken immediately matched that exact time on his next lap. The advantage ultimately went to Giovinazzi because he set the time first.
Close Battle in Hyperpole, Top Four Cars Split by Tiny Margin
The competition in this session was extremely tight. The top four cars were separated by just 0.050s, showing the incredible level of competition in the Hypercar class. Charles Milesi of Alpine moved up to third, while Harry Tincknell of Aston Martin had to settle for fourth.
Aston Martin initially looked like they might struggle, but Tincknell found speed at the end of qualifying to advance to Hyperpole. Meanwhile, Toyota and Genesis placed two cars each in positions seven through ten, with Ryo Hirakawa and Kamui Kobayashi closely matched.
Aston Martin Dominates LMGT3, Barrichello Takes Consecutive Pole
In the LMGT3 class, Aston Martin once again showed its dominance. Eduardo Barrichello, son of F1 legend Rubens Barrichello, secured pole position for the third consecutive time with the Heart of Racing team. His lap time was initially improved but was deleted due to a track limits violation.
This result is a valuable boost for Ferrari ahead of the main Lone Star Le Mans race on Sunday. With such tight competition, strategy and consistency will be key to victory at the Austin circuit.
