The United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas left Lewis Hamilton with plenty to analyze despite a solid fourth-place finish. The seven-time world champion expressed clear frustration over a persistent balance issue with his SF-26, insisting that unresolved setup limitations are currently preventing him from unlocking the true performance potential of his machinery.

Trouble began during Friday practice when the team pursued an incorrect setup direction. Although subsequent adjustments brought his configuration closer to teammate Charles Leclerc—who ultimately converted a strong weekend into a second-place podium finish—Hamilton started the race with less front wing than his garage neighbor, severely compromising his ability to rotate the car through corners and fight off rivals like Max Verstappen.

Throughout the opening two stints, severe understeer handcuffed the British driver's pace. Ferrari mechanics added four clicks of front wing during each pit stop, which drastically improved behavior by the final stint, but Hamilton admitted he still felt four clicks short of an ideal balance.

Reflecting on the weekend, Hamilton remained optimistic yet critical of the lost opportunity. "There's lots of positives to take from it. I think lots of learnings. I think for the next races, if I can really get on top of this balance issue that I have, I think we can get much better results," he told media.

"I think if I had had the balance that I need... even if I just had the balancing of the last stint, I would have been, I would have right in the fight all the way to the end. Even then, another step from there, I think we should have probably qualified better. So some good pointers."

Compounding the setup woes was a strategic miscalculation regarding tire allocation. Ferrari opted to retain two sets of medium compounds under the assumption that the hard tires would lack performance, but the hard compound ultimately proved to be the superior race rubber.

This misjudgment forced Hamilton to start the grand prix on a used set of soft tires, putting him at an immediate disadvantage against competitors launching on fresh rubber.
