Charles Leclerc has revealed that Ferrari is preparing a series of technical upgrade packages to rectify the performance struggles experienced during the early stages of the season. While the Maranello-based squad entered the year with ambitions of being title contenders, the reality on track has shown a lack of consistency in maintaining race pace compared to their primary rivals.
In recent outings, Ferrari has exhibited a peculiar but inconsistent performance profile. Their machinery has shown impressive explosive power during race starts, frequently allowing them to surge past Mercedes in the opening laps. However, this initial advantage typically evaporates as the race progresses, with Mercedes reclaiming dominance once the initial sprint phase ends, highlighting a deficit in long-run tire management or aerodynamic efficiency.
Ferrari implemented an upgrade package at the Miami Grand Prix last weekend, yet the result was one of their most difficult outings of the season. Despite this, Leclerc maintained that the failure was not due to a lack of performance from the new components. According to the Monegasque driver, the upgrade package functioned as intended, but the core issue was that competitors were pushing their development even more aggressively, effectively neutralizing Ferrari's gains.

Leclerc emphasized that in this current generation of cars, particularly during the first year of new technical regulations, every minor detail in development is critical. He has demanded that all future technical iterations be executed perfectly, without any margin for error. This is because the vehicle's sensitivity to setup changes is extremely high, meaning a small mistake in component development can severely compromise the overall stability of the car.
Addressing the perceived trend of Ferrari losing pace as the race wears on, Leclerc denied that this has become a permanent pattern. Although there has been a visible drop in lap times as the tires degrade, he believes it is premature to conclude that Ferrari suffers from a fundamental flaw in tire wear. He has called for a few more races to analyze whether this phenomenon is a systemic issue or merely a variable linked to specific circuit characteristics.
Ferrari's development strategy is now focused on refining technical details to reclaim their position at the front of the Formula 1 grid. The primary goal for the engineers is to ensure that performance increases in one area do not sacrifice other critical aspects, such as load distribution or tire surface temperature management, which have been recurring weak points when facing the consistency of the Mercedes power unit and chassis.
All eyes are now on the next set of upgrades promised to arrive soon. If Ferrari can execute these developments with the precision Leclerc demands, they have the potential to close the performance gap and once again become a genuine threat to the front-runners. However, should the technical adaptation continue to falter, their opportunities to compete for the championship this season will rapidly diminish.
