Tension in the Ferrari garage after the Dutch Grand Prix has become a hot topic. Will Buxton, an F1 analyst familiar to fans, believes the moment was more a test for the team's management than for the relationship between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
On the Up To Speed podcast, Buxton compared Ferrari's pitwall hesitation with the smooth execution Mercedes showed when ordering a position swap. While the Brackley outfit was seamless, Ferrari avoided team orders, leading to a series of frustrated radio messages from Hamilton.
According to Buxton, this was a real test for Ferrari's management. "Is this Ferrari's first real test of the Charles and Lewis relationship? Well, if it's not a test of their relationship, it's a test of how the team handles it because Charles is the golden child, right? Always has been. He's Ferrari through and through," he said.
Leclerc has been with Ferrari since 2019 and is deeply embedded with the team. Meanwhile, Hamilton joined in 2025 after 12 years at Mercedes. Although he needed time to adapt, the 41-year-old returned to top form in 2026. However, that difference in experience adds spice to the team's dynamic.
"And then you've got Lewis, the GOAT, seven-time champion. You can't please both, right? In an F1 team, one driver's going to be p***ed, one driver's going to come out happy. That's just how it works," Buxton added. He stressed that Hamilton is used to a team that executes immediately, and he wants that championship-winning mentality at Ferrari.
"I can see the frustration in Lewis of being like, 'Guys, we're making ourselves look like d***s here. This is stupid.' Because he has experience of the other side of the coin," Buxton explained. He then questioned whether this is a Ferrari problem or a Charles-Lewis problem, and how quickly they must address it.
The big question now hangs: can Ferrari improve and show the execution of a championship-winning team? If not, such internal conflict could become a ticking time bomb in the tight 2026 season.
