Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Fernando Alonso has indicated that the 2026 Formula 1 season is unlikely to be his final campaign on the grid, despite a challenging start to the year with Aston Martin.
Alonso has consistently avoided committing to his long-term future in Formula 1, instead targeting the current regulation cycle as an opportunity to return to the front of the field. However, the Aston Martin project in partnership with Honda has struggled significantly in the early phase of the season, leaving the team at the back of the competitive order.
These difficulties have prompted suggestions that Alonso could accelerate his departure from the sport if performance does not improve. Nevertheless, the two-time world champion has made it clear that his competitive drive and personal motivation remain firmly intact.

"I love what I do. I love racing," Alonso said.
"I did my first race when I was three years old, and now I am 44, so for 41 years of my life I have been behind a steering wheel."
"The moment I have to stop racing, it will be a very hard decision and difficult to accept."
Alonso explained that any decision regarding his retirement will come naturally, based on his own ощущения of competitiveness and enjoyment, both of which he insists are still present at a high level.
"Time will tell. I will feel it. At the moment, I don’t feel that it is time yet."
"I feel competitive, I feel motivated, I feel happy when I drive. So hopefully this is not my last season."
Off track, Alonso has also experienced a significant personal milestone, as his partner Melissa recently gave birth to their first child. With both professional and personal developments shaping his outlook, Alonso’s future remains a key storyline as the 2026 season progresses and the championship enters its next phase.
