VR46 Ducati rider Fabio Di Giannantonio has candidly admitted his deep heartbreak as this weekend's MotoGP Australian Grand Prix marks the final appearance at Phillip Island for the foreseeable future.
Having served as the traditional home of Australian motorcycle grand prix racing for over 30 years, Phillip Island has captured the hearts of riders and fans alike with its fast, flowing layout and stunning coastal backdrop. However, the championship announced a controversial shift to a street circuit in Adelaide starting from 2027.
For Fabio Di Giannantonio, the venue holds profound personal significance, having secured his maiden premier class podium there in 2023—a result that proved pivotal for his professional career.

"I cry every day," Fabio Di Giannantonio told reporters at the track on Thursday. "It’s the most beautiful track in the world, and the fact that they took it away was heartbreaking. I hope they’re making all these considerations to improve the sport, even though, for me, this was the track they shouldn’t have touched."
Echoing remarks made by former world champion Casey Stoner, the Italian rider compared the iconic Australian venue to a motorcycle equivalent of Monte Carlo. With potential weather disruptions looming over the weekend schedule, he emphasized his intention to savor every single inch of the historic circuit during what could be the final premier-class event at the location.
