The race weekend at Lusail International Circuit delivered instant drama as Fabio Di Giannantonio shattered the lap record during a thrilling Friday Practice session at the Qatar Grand Prix. The Italian rider posted a blistering lap time of 1m 50.406s to rocket to the top of the timesheets. However, despite the celebratory atmosphere in the garage, he admitted to experiencing bittersweet emotions due to lingering technical hurdles.
Throughout recent rounds, the VR46 standout has struggled with a mystifying lack of top-end speed from his factory-spec machinery. This top-speed deficit remained evident during Friday's running, where he could only manage the 12th fastest speed through the trap, finishing 5.5 km/h slower than the sister bike piloted by Iker Lecuona.
A major breakthrough only arrived during the afternoon session after his engineering crew implemented crucial adjustments focused on braking stability and corner entry. These setup tweaks unlocked the hidden potential of the motorcycle, prompting the Italian to reflect on potential missteps made during previous race weekends.

"It is a bittersweet feeling, honestly," Di Giannantonio told MotoGP.com. "Super happy for the end of the day, super happy for the lap, super happy for the feeling. But a bittersweet feeling because we saw that we could have done some mistakes here and there in the last GPs."
He further noted the stark contrast from the morning session, where his race pace was initially lagging far behind the leading pack. Nevertheless, he chose to maintain an optimistic outlook, emphasizing the exceptional progress achieved by his technical crew during the afternoon.
Looking ahead to the remainder of the Qatar weekend, Diggia remains fully confident in his long-run race pace and tyre management capabilities. Even so, he stressed that executing a flawless qualifying session is the mandatory first step before converting that speed into race success.
The competitive hierarchy at the front was solidified as championship leader Marc Marquez secured second place on Friday, while Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi emerged as a formidable threat by rounding out the top three.
