After securing a strong sixth place on the starting grid and converting it into a solid fifth position during the Sprint race, the Italian rider suffered a dramatic performance slump during the main Grand Prix. Representing the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team, the rider carrying the number 49 machine was forced into a lonely battle in the mid-pack, crossing the finish line down in eighth place.
The root cause of the setback became glaringly obvious right from the opening laps of the race. Di Giannantonio candidly explained that he completely lacked front tire grip from the very first lap onward. While the situation did not mirror the severe tire blistering witnessed earlier in Indonesia, the total absence of mechanical traction coupled with heavy machine vibrations robbed him of any confidence needed to push the motorcycle toward its absolute limits through the fast corners of Sepang.
The lack of competitiveness transformed the twenty-lap encounter into a grueling psychological test for the future factory KTM rider. Reflecting on his helpless position on the track, he delivered a blunt assessment of the afternoon. "I was riding a motorcycle today, but I was not racing," Di Giannantonio stated, highlighting his inability to fight back. Throughout the grueling Grand Prix, he admitted to simply waiting and watching laps tick down until the very end.
This ongoing slump in the latter half of the championship continues to thwart the Italian rider's ambitions of replicating his early-season heroics, where he regularly challenged front-runners like Marc Marquez. Recurring technical hiccups and an unexplained top speed deficit ranging between seven to ten kilometers per hour compared to identical machinery have left the VR46 garage searching for answers.
