George Russell's fastest lap in FP2 showcased Mercedes' strength on the straights. Charles Leclerc lost significant time before the Ascari chicane but gained it back in the final sector towards Parabolica.
This suggests a different energy deployment strategy. If this holds, the opening laps on Sunday could be intense, as Ferrari is known for being opportunistic at the start with different engine modes.
The Strength of Ferrari's Upgraded Engine
A comparison between the two Haas drivers offers a unique chance to evaluate Ferrari's upgraded power unit. Ollie Bearman, using the new engine, showed superior straight-line speed compared to teammate Esteban Ocon, who is still on the old spec.
However, the significant time gap is also influenced by the parts inconsistency issues that have plagued Ocon all season, often leading to loss of downforce and affecting overall performance.
