A simmering internal tension within the Haas Formula 1 team ultimately boiled over, resulting in Esteban Ocon being abruptly dropped during the Mexico City GP weekend. Former F1 driver Karun Chandhok believes that the drastic decision from the Banbury-based outfit was not a sudden impulse, but rather the culmination of months of mounting pressure and friction.
The shocking roster change occurred following Friday's practice sessions at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu offered a cryptic explanation to reporters when addressing the sudden removal of the French driver from active driving duties.
"Yeah, I can’t tell you much, but at least I can tell you that he’s not ill," Ayao Komatsu told Sky Sports when asked about the dramatic paddock development.

The root of the fallout reportedly stemmed from a disagreement during FP2, where Esteban Ocon expressed visible frustration over a sudden change in the team's run plan that scrapped a planned Soft tyre simulation. The resulting post-session debrief discussions deteriorated rapidly, forcing the management to step in and stand him down.
Karun Chandhok pointed out that the volatile atmosphere inside the garage has been brewing ever since rumours emerged—and were later confirmed—that the Frenchman would lose his seat for the upcoming season to Ferrari junior prospect Rafael Camara.
"From my opinion, I get you are trying to learn whatever you can from FP2 and gain information for the race, but that is not necessarily worth the battle with your team. I think you have to be smart picking your battles," Karun Chandhok stated during his analysis on Sky Sports F1.
Broadcaster David Croft echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the relationship between the driver and the team had deteriorated significantly in recent rounds as the reality of his impending departure set in, clearing the path for reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa to step in.
"We don’t know an awful lot. Haas are being tight-lipped. But talking behind the scenes, the relationship between Esteban and the team for obvious reasons hasn’t been magnificent in recent races," David Croft added regarding the unprecedented situation.
