A major surprise unfolded in the Formula 1 paddock this weekend as Esteban Ocon was suddenly sidelined for the remainder of the Mexican Grand Prix. The Haas team released a short statement on Saturday morning confirming that the French driver will sit out the rest of the event at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
The unexpected decision paves the way for reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa to step into the VF-26 cockpit for final practice, qualifying, and Sunday's 71-lap grand prix. "TGR Haas F1 team reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa will replace Esteban Ocon for the remainder of the weekend's Mexico City Grand Prix," the official team statement read.
Prior to this sudden lineup change, Ocon endured a frustrating Friday marked by vocal dissatisfaction over his runplan and tire choices during FP2 following an animated radio exchange with race engineer Laura Mueller. The visible tension in the paddock highlighted an increasingly fractured relationship between driver and team.

While Haas confirmed the change is not due to any illness, the move arrives against the backdrop of an already strained dynamic following earlier announcements regarding the team's future driver roster. The sudden benching thrusts the Japanese endurance star into a surprise grand prix debut.
For Hirakawa, who previously sampled machinery for various outfits, this weekend marks the ultimate milestone of stepping up to a full race seat in the world championship, partnering the team for the remainder of the Mexico schedule.
