WRC Sweden 2026, Sportrik MediaThierry Neuville has been handed a one-minute time penalty following a breach of safety regulations at the end of Saturday’s action in Sweden.

The Hyundai driver was found to have not properly fastened his helmet during the Umea Sprint stage, which concluded the day’s running. In addition to the time penalty, the 2024 world champion was fined €1,500 by the event stewards.

Hyundai team manager Pablo Marcos attended a hearing on Saturday evening to provide clarification regarding the incident. He explained that Neuville was using a new helmet and felt the fastening was not properly secured due to extreme weather conditions. While the stewards accepted that the infringement was not intentional, they underlined that it remains the competitor’s responsibility to ensure safety equipment is correctly worn in accordance with the regulations.

Despite the penalty, Neuville retains seventh position overall. However, his margin over M-Sport Ford driver Jon Armstrong has been reduced to 14.8 seconds, increasing the pressure heading into the final leg.

Neuville is not expected to adopt a conservative approach, as he remains in contention for additional points on Super Sunday. The five fastest drivers across Sunday’s stages will score bonus points, with further points available on the Power Stage.

Elfyn Evans leads the rally ahead of fellow Toyota drivers Takamoto Katsuta, Sami Pajari, and Oliver Solberg. Neuville sits ahead of team-mates Esapekka Lappi and Adrien Fourmaux.
