The 2026 Formula 1 season has reached its 16th round, yet fans have not witnessed a single wet-weather race under the current technical regulations. The FIA has introduced several adjustments to address safety and visibility concerns, ranging from tyre blanket temperatures to restricting electrical boost in the wet.
However, managing the tyres supplied by Pirelli remains a major hurdle. Drivers have consistently struggled to generate and maintain working temperatures in intermediate tyres, turning cold venues into nightmare scenarios for wet running.
Amid these ongoing tyre challenges, Pierre Gasly pointed out that the Sepang International Circuit offers the most suitable environment for F1's first rain-affected grand prix of the year. The circuit's abrasive asphalt and high ambient temperatures provide natural advantages for water clearance and thermal management.

This perspective is echoed by Pirelli chief engineer Simone Berra, who agreed that Sepang serves as the ultimate testing ground. Unlike the freezing private tests earlier this year at Silverstone and Magny-Cours, Malaysia offers the balanced conditions needed to properly evaluate the 2026 wet-weather packages.
