Wehrlein Clinches Formula E Title Despite Point-less Finale

Pascal Wehrlein has been crowned Formula E champion for 2026 after finishing 14th in a chaotic season finale at the ExCeL London circuit. Despite failing to score points, the Porsche driver maintained a five-point cushion over title rival Jake Dennis, who was left pointless following a controversial clash.

The 35-lap race was full of drama from the start. Wehrlein stayed inside the top five for most of the race, but everything changed in the final ten laps when outside contender Mitch Evans began to close in. Evans's teammate Antonio Felix da Costa played a key role by holding up Wehrlein, allowing Evans to sweep through into fourth place.

Jaguar's team strategy was clear: sacrifice da Costa to open the path for Evans. However, da Costa's defensive driving allowed several other cars to pass, including Dennis, who briefly moved ahead of Wehrlein in the live standings. The tension peaked when the two title contenders came together at Turns 16-17, with Wehrlein tagging the rear of Joel Eriksson's car, sending Dennis into the wall.

Dennis had to pit for a tyre change, while Wehrlein nursed his Porsche home. During the intense duel with da Costa, Wehrlein made a heated radio remark that drew attention. After the race, he received a five-second penalty for the Eriksson collision, but it did not change his status as a two-time Formula E champion.

This title cements Porsche's dominance in 2026 and makes Wehrlein only the second driver after Jean-Eric Vergne to win multiple Formula E titles. Meanwhile, Taylor Barnard of DS Penske took the race victory, having led from early on and holding off Nyck de Vries on the final lap.

In the final standings, Evans had to settle for third place, nine points behind Wehrlein. The season ended with intense rivalry and drama right up to the last lap.
