Vinales Returns at Motegi with a New Mindset

Maverick Vinales is back on the MotoGP grid after a long absence. The KTM rider will compete at the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi, bringing a fresh mindset after a shoulder injury forced him to withdraw from the German round.

“Obviously, I'm far from home, but it's not bad. I'm enjoying the time. I'm very curious to understand how I am with the rehabilitation and I'm very motivated to keep going,” Vinales told the media, including our collaborator Pecino and DAZN.

During two months without racing, Vinales underwent intensive rehabilitation. “I was like two months without riding the bike because I didn't want to make any strange movement or something that would cause inflammation. So I could really train every day to try to gain strength. And when I got on the R1 at a circuit, I enjoyed it a lot,” he explained.

Physical Condition Still in Question

However, the shoulder issue is not fully resolved. Vinales must test his physical condition before feeling truly comfortable on a MotoGP bike. “It's not solved. I still have to work a lot. Every month there's a small improvement. There's still a long way to go, but maybe it's enough to ride the bike,” he said.

He added, “To ride next year's bike it's enough. I tried it and it's very easy to ride. But you know, MotoGP is a beast. So I need to really understand the situation because I'm riding with different tires and without the rear device. The bike doesn't feel as powerful as always.”

Vinales claims he is in good physical shape but unsure if it's enough for MotoGP. “I'm in good physical shape, but I don't know if it's enough to ride the bike,” he admitted.

Recovery Progress and PRP Therapy

Vinales reported significant improvement in his shoulder. “The problem when I got injured was that everything was exhausted. My shoulder was completely fatigued. I had no strength left. Compared to then, I did some tests with a machine that can measure in newtons. I don't know exactly, but I've improved between 10 and 15 percent, which is a lot in such a short time,” he stated.

His treatment included PRP plasma therapy. “I did a different treatment, like PRP plasma, and it works quite well. When the championship ends I'll do another. It's like three times and then you have to wait, and then three more times. I'll do the next one when it finishes. I'm thinking about whether to do it in between or when it ends, but it has worked. So I'm quite happy,” he concluded.
