Tickford Racing is set to bring back one of the most iconic liveries in Bathurst 1000 history after a fan vote sponsored by Castrol. The scheme, famously raced by Mark Winterbottom and Steven Richards in 2007, will adorn Thomas Randle's #55 Ford Mustang at Sandown in November.

For Winterbottom, now co-driver to Cameron Waters in the Monster Energy Mustang, the throwback evokes mixed emotions. "Seeing one of Richo's cars from that ’07 era back on track will be a really cool moment," he said. "It’s got good and bad history for me. At Bathurst in 2007, Saturday was pole position, one of the best days of my life, and Sunday was almost one of the worst."

The 2007 race is remembered as one of Winterbottom and Tickford's most famous hard-luck stories. After leading 74 laps, he slid out of the lead when rain hit with 14 laps to go, surfing through the gravel at The Chase and nearly rolling the Castrol Ford. He rejoined but later hit the wall at the top of the Mountain, forcing a pit stop for a bent wheel, ultimately finishing 10th.

"We didn’t win the race at Bathurst, but it was almost the most dominant weekend we’ve ever had," Winterbottom reflected. "The best thing about retro liveries is the story behind them, and 99 percent of that car were great memories." He admitted he voted for this livery himself, calling it one of his favourites.

Randle, still chasing his first Supercars win, was thrilled with the poll result. "I’m pretty stoked that the winning livery is the ’07 BF Falcon FPR livery," he said. "That was the one I was gunning for, and I swear it’s not rigged!" Randle will be joined by rookie Reuben Goodall in the Castrol Ford for the Bathurst 1000. He currently sits 12th in the standings, just 63 points off 10th with only the Great Race remaining before the Finals Series cut-off.

This isn't the first throwback for Castrol, which has run retro liveries at Sandown in recent years, including Larry Perkins' famous saw-tooth design in 2025. The move not only honours history but also engages fans directly, a smart marketing play.

By embracing a historic livery, Tickford hopes to inspire Randle and Goodall for one of the most challenging races on the Supercars calendar. Bathurst 1000 is where legends are made, and this year, the memories of 2007 will come alive once more.
