An imperious drive from Max Verstappen at a wet Sepang circuit delivered a historic victory. The Dutch driver secured the first-ever win for Red Bull's in-house power unit after a chaotic start that threw the entire grid into total disarray.
Torrential rain delayed the start by 40 minutes, and once the formation laps began behind the safety car, multiple cars unexpectedly ground to a halt due to software issues. Race control swiftly threw the red flag, halting proceedings while teams scrambled to reset their machinery before a proper standing start could be attempted.
When the lights finally went out, Kimi Antonelli and George Russell bolted into the lead on intermediate tires. Verstappen soon fought his way to the front and controlled the pace, while Russell suffered late heartbreak with a power unit failure that completely extinguished his championship momentum.

The late drama allowed Antonelli to extend his commanding points lead at the top of the standings. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton capped off a brilliant recovery drive by clinching the final podium spot after a strategic masterclass.
