After the race, Verstappen defended his actions, stating that if he had stayed on track, Hamilton would have hit him. “If I had stayed there, there would have been contact. My race could have ended at Turn 2,” he said. He emphasized that his move was about survival and that he is content with his position.
The Verstappen-Hamilton rivalry has been one of the fiercest in F1 history. Since 2021, they have battled wheel-to-wheel, and the Madrid incident shows the tension remains high even on a new track.
For Verstappen, the incident may have cost him a shot at victory. However, he remained calm and focused. Hamilton, despite regaining the position, had to deal with technical issues that hindered his performance. The Madrid race reminded everyone that in F1, every decision counts.
