Max Verstappen has stressed that Red Bull Racing's latest upgrade package at the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix is vital for the team's progress, as speculation over his future in Formula 1 continues.
Although Verstappen remains under contract until the end of the 2028 season, the Dutchman has yet to publicly commit to Red Bull beyond this year. He has recently held meetings with senior team figures, with discussions expected to continue ahead of the team's home race at Spielberg.
Red Bull has introduced its second major upgrade package of the season in Austria. However, Verstappen insisted that the focus is on improving the car rather than linking the developments to his contract situation.

"I think it's just crucial for us as a team. We want to improve from where we started the season to where we want to end it. We know that we are lacking performance. It's more about trying to improve the car. I think that's what everyone wants."
Red Bull currently sits fourth in the competitive order, trailing the leading three teams while maintaining an advantage over midfield rivals including Alpine F1 Team and Racing Bulls. It is a position Verstappen admits is well below the team's expectations.
Asked how long he is willing to remain patient while waiting for improvements, Verstappen declined to set any deadline.
"We'll see. It's difficult to answer that right now. We don't like being the fourth-best team, so we want to be better. That's what we are working on at the moment."
