Vasseur Praises Hamilton Comeback and Analyzes Ferrari Starting Position in Mexico

A sensational Saturday at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez brought immense joy to the Ferrari garage after Lewis Hamilton secured his very first pole position in Italian red. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc delivered a solid third-place finish, placing both red cars near the sharp end of the grid for the upcoming Grand Prix weekend.

This stellar qualifying performance brought a wave of satisfaction to Team Principal Fred Vasseur. Speaking to the media after the session, the French manager was visibly thrilled with the performance displayed by both Cavallino drivers during the intense Mexican qualifying hour.

"Hamilton? From his side, it was a great lap," Vasseur stated in his post-session evaluation. "He struggled a bit in Q2 and had to use a second set of tires, but he pulled off a fantastic Q3 with two very strong laps. I am really satisfied with the job he did out there today on the track."

Vasseur also addressed Leclerc's performance, noting that the Monegasque driver was briefly on provisional pole after his initial run in Q3 before a minor mistake on his final push lap cost him the top spot.

"Charles also did a great job, he was in pole position after the first run but made a small mistake on his final lap. He could have done better, but it could have been worse too, so it is totally fine. Let's focus on tomorrow because that is when the points are actually awarded," Vasseur explained.

Looking ahead to the grand prix start, Vasseur discussed the strategic implications of the notoriously long run down to the first corner in Mexico, highlighting the advantage of starting from the cleaner side of the track.

"This will be the longest run of the season to reach the first corner and certainly slipstream will play an important role. I would still prefer to start ahead of everyone, but having first and third places and finding ourselves with both cars on the clean side of the track... maybe it is better this way," he concluded.
