Valtteri Bottas's Formula 1 future became a hot topic in the paddock after Cadillac team principal Marcin Budkowski refused to give a firm confirmation regarding the team's driver lineup for the upcoming 2027 season. The speculation arose amid recent dips in the Finnish driver's qualifying and race pace, immediately triggering widespread rumors in the driver market.
Several names began to be linked with Cadillac's race seat, ranging from Esteban Ocon—whose seat at Haas was taken by Formula 2 championship leader Rafael Camara—to test driver Colton Herta and Red Bull reserve driver Yuki Tsunoda. The situation intensified when Marcin Budkowski during Friday's press conference at the United States Grand Prix gave an evasive answer when asked about potential candidates.
"Well, look, as a team principal, and I’m sure it’s the same with my colleagues, you’re getting calls and contacts from every driver or driver manager that is on the market," said Marcin Budkowski as reported by Motorsport.com. He emphasized that he would not announce any driver lineups in front of the media to respect the team's internal communication protocols.
Responding to the team principal's reluctance to openly confirm contracts in public, Valtteri Bottas remained entirely unbothered and relaxed. The 264-race F1 veteran stated that he fully understands the terms and conditions of the multi-year contract he signed upon joining the Cadillac squad for the 2026 racing campaign.
"Yes – I mean, last year when I signed, I know the terms, so that's all OK," expressed Valtteri Bottas when asked if the team had given him full reassurance for 2027. Although the world of Formula 1 is known to be unpredictable and ruthless, the driver remains confident that his position is secure based on the official agreements previously made with the team.
