Yuki Tsunoda has made it clear that his primary focus remains on Formula 1, despite reports linking him with a switch to IndyCar. The Japanese driver made his return to the grid at last weekend's Dutch Grand Prix, stepping in for the injured Isack Hadjar.
That decision triggered a chain of driver changes. Liam Lawson moved up to Red Bull to replace Hadjar, while Tsunoda partnered Arvid Lindblad at the sister team Racing Bulls in Zandvoort.
It marked Tsunoda's first appearance since losing his Red Bull seat at the end of the 2025 season. Unfortunately, he narrowly missed out on a points finish at Zandvoort. However, reports from American outlet Racer claim that Tsunoda's management has been exploring a move to IndyCar, with talks reportedly held with nearly half of the teams in the series for the 2027 season.
Addressing the rumors, Tsunoda chose to brush them off. "It's not my job to look at that stuff," he told select media, including RacingNews365. "I completely leave it to my manager, and my job is to just drive fast and that stuff. My mentality is always in Formula 1. My main goal is to always be driving in Formula 1 and have success. That's always there, no matter what."
However, Tsunoda hinted that he won't wait forever. "But I also don't want to be staying in the garage for two years. I want to drive as well," he asserted. "If there's something potentially happening or I couldn't find a seat for next year, then I'll have to look for other series. But until the moment I hit the track next year, my mentality will always be in Formula 1."
This statement shows that Tsunoda remains optimistic about a full-time return to the F1 grid. But if that opportunity doesn't come, he might explore other series to keep racing. For now, his commitment to F1 is unwavering.
