As the pit lane lights flickered on at Mount Panorama, the Japanese manufacturer faced a harsh reality check that truly tested the team's resilience. All five Toyota Supra entries failed to break into the prestigious Top 10 Shootout, marking a tough start to their debut campaign in the modern Supercars era.
This challenging situation was candidly addressed by Walkinshaw TWG team principal Carl Faux following a grueling Friday practice and qualifying session. According to the team boss, the core issue lies in the lack of straight-line speed along Mount Panorama's notoriously long straights, making it nearly impossible to match their rivals.
The highest-ranking Toyota qualifier turned out to be Brad Jones Racing's Andre Heimgartner down in 15th place. He managed to finish just over a tenth of a second ahead of Walkinshaw TWG standout Chaz Mostert.

"As a Toyota group we’re near or near-abouts the Fords, but that’s a bit of a problem," Carl Faux told Speedcafe, highlighting that poor positioning and missed slipstream opportunities severely compromised their qualifying run.
With showers forecasted around the circuit, the team is openly pinning its hopes on wet weather. Having previously capitalized on damp conditions to secure a stellar 1-3 finish at The Bend, the squad believes rain is their best tactical weapon to neutralize rival advantages and alter rear tyre degradation.
