MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Toprak Razgatlioglu has been penalised by MotoGP stewards following a collision with Lorenzo Savadori during the 2026 Jerez MotoGP Sprint.
The Pramac Yamaha rider has been handed a long lap penalty for Sunday’s grand prix after being deemed responsible for causing a crash while battling in the lower positions.
The incident occurred as track conditions deteriorated due to rain, with Razgatlioglu attempting an aggressive overtaking move. Contact with Savadori resulted in the Aprilia wild-card rider crashing, prompting an investigation by the FIM MotoGP Stewards.

In their official statement, the stewards classified the incident under the “causing a crash” category, referring to contact made during an overtaking attempt that leads to another rider falling.
“As a first offence of the season, the appropriate penalty in this case is a Long Lap Penalty,” the statement confirmed.
Razgatlioglu explained that the incident stemmed from his attempt to take advantage of changing conditions as rain began to affect grip levels.
“When the rain started, I saw an opportunity as the pace dropped, so I tried to push harder. At Turn 5 I attempted to pass Savadori and Morbidelli, but I went onto a dirty line and, with the track becoming very slippery, I lost the front,” he said.
The Turkish rider also issued an apology, stressing that the collision was unintentional.
“I’m very sorry for involving Savadori in the crash. That was not my intention. As soon as I fell, I checked on him and I was relieved to see that he was OK,” he added.
Savadori confirmed he escaped serious injury, although he admitted he was not at full physical condition following the crash.
“Another rider made a mistake and I had a big crash. Fortunately, I’m not injured, nothing is broken, but I’m not at 100%. I hope to be in better shape for the race,” Savadori said.
Razgatlioglu joins a growing list of penalised riders during the Jerez weekend, including Jorge Martin, Joan Mir, Franco Morbidelli, and team-mate Jack Miller.
Starting Sunday’s grand prix from 19th on the grid, the additional penalty further complicates Razgatlioglu’s chances of scoring points at the 2026 Spanish MotoGP round.
