The Supercars paddock is currently divided on a proposed new charter deal that would see the calendar remain at 14 rounds next season. This internal dynamic has sparked intense debate among team owners, considering the new agreement offers an upswing on the current base payment, yet less than the current base plus additional payments for any number of rounds over 12.

Amidst these prolonged discussions, the grid is split into two distinct factions. Seven teams are strongly supportive of the new deal, while five others want to see the current TRC honoured even if it means a reduction back to 12 rounds next season. Dilansir dari Speedcafe, this friction highlights contrasting visions for the future commercial and competitive structure of the championship.

The seven supporting outfits comprise Walkinshaw TWG Racing, Dick Johnson Racing, Matt Stone Racing, Tickford Racing, Brad Jones Racing, Team 18, and Blanchard Racing Team. These organisations believe that maintaining a 14-round calendar is vital to preserve momentum and deliver a superior product for the audience.

Key figures from these supportive teams have openly shared the reasoning behind their stance. Ryan Walkinshaw of Walkinshaw TWG Racing stated that putting everything else aside, this represents the right deal for the fans of the sport. "Of course, teams have to be financially viable and strong, which this deal supports, but it’s a win for the Supercars fans no matter who your favourite team is," he explained.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the previous structure hindered expansion. "The current TRC structure means growing the sport, like everyone should want to do, has financial disincentives attached. Collectively, we needed to work together to prioritise the continued growth for all," Matt Stone and other team principals echoed similar sentiments regarding the undeniable value of increased exposure and entertainment.
