Ryo Hirakawa Replaces Esteban Ocon in Mexico as Early Split Rumors Grow

A major surprise shook the Formula 1 paddock as Esteban Ocon was ruled out for the remainder of the race weekend at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The Haas squad officially requested and secured permission from the FIA to substitute the French driver with reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa for the rest of the Mexico City Grand Prix event.

This sudden lineup change triggered immediate speculation across the paddock as team officials remained tight-lipped regarding the exact reasons behind the absence. In their official statement, the team made it clear that no further updates would be provided regarding the sudden personnel shift within the American outfit.

The official team communication elaborated on the emergency deployment. "Reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa will replace Esteban Ocon for the remainder of the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend. Ryo participated in Friday's first free practice session (FP1) at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, marking his third seasonal FP1 appearance at the wheel of the VF-26, where he finished 15th overall," the statement read.

The statement added that the Japanese driver would partner teammate Ollie Bearman through final practice, Saturday qualifying, and Sunday's 71-lap grand prix, marking Hirakawa's official Formula 1 race debut. The team reiterated that no further statements would be issued at this time.

With no mention of flu-like symptoms or physical ailments in the official brief, analysts quickly gravitated toward more serious personal friction or internal disciplinary measures. Given Ocon's impending departure and his previous history of missing season-ending races with Alpine, an early contractual split is heavily suspected by insiders.
