Isack Hadjar has officially signed a contract extension with Red Bull Racing that will keep him with the team until the end of the 2027 season. The deal completes Red Bull’s senior driver line-up for next year, with Max Verstappen already committed through 2030. The announcement underscores Red Bull’s faith in the young Frenchman after an impressive debut campaign.
Hadjar, 21, stepped up to the Red Bull seat at the beginning of 2026 following a strong rookie season with Racing Bulls. He made an immediate impact by qualifying third at the Australian Grand Prix and has since become a regular contender at the front. However, a wrist injury sustained during training over the summer break forced him to miss the last three rounds. Before his injury, Hadjar had recorded seven consecutive top-six finishes, with his Monaco podium standing out as the highlight of his season.
That podium also ended a lengthy drought on the other side of the Red Bull garage, marking the first podium for Verstappen’s teammate since 2024. The result highlighted Hadjar’s potential to be a solid partner for Verstappen, something Red Bull has struggled to find in recent years. Since Daniel Ricciardo left at the end of 2018, the second Red Bull seat has been a revolving door, with Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, Liam Lawson, and Yuki Tsunoda all cycling through without securing continuity.
Hadjar becomes only the second driver after Sergio Perez to be retained for a second full season alongside Verstappen. This stability is a breath of fresh air for a team often criticized for not giving its young drivers enough time. Team principal Laurent Mekies explained the reasoning behind the decision.
“We’re very excited to continue our journey with Isack,” Mekies said. “Since joining us at the start of the year, he has been superb on and off track, especially considering this is only his second Formula 1 season, which made extending his contract an easy decision. From the very beginning, Isack immersed himself in the team, spending every minute at the factory with his engineers to develop the car, always eager to learn and improve. You could see from that first weekend in Melbourne that he handled the step up with remarkable composure and had earned his place in this seat.”
The announcement comes as Hadjar prepares to return to racing at this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix after three events on the sidelines. He has been cleared to return in Baku, and Lawson will move back to Racing Bulls. Mekies added that the new deal reflects Red Bull’s long-term confidence in Hadjar despite his recent absence.
“The period since his injury has been a difficult one for Isack, but this extension is a testament to how much we believe in him and we can’t wait to see him back out on track,” he said. Hadjar himself welcomed the extension. “I am really excited to continue with Oracle Red Bull Racing,” he said. “I came to this team eight months ago and [the journey has been incredible]. I want to keep building on the progress we’ve made.”
