The sprint race at the Mandalika Circuit in Indonesia brought mixed fortunes for the factory Ducati squad, with Francesco Bagnaia struggling to find his rhythm from tenth on the starting grid. The Italian rider ultimately crossed the finish line in eighth place, conceding a significant gap to his teammate at the checkered flag.
Bagnaia's primary hurdle during the 13-lap dash was a delayed tyre warm-up phase, preventing him from generating sufficient energy into the rear tyre during the opening laps. He quickly lost touch with competitors like Fermin Aldeguer, spending the first half of the race fighting to establish stable rear traction on a low-grip asphalt surface.
As the race entered its closing stages, a familiar threat in the form of Fabio Quartararo woke the Ducati rider up. The Yamaha competitor closed the gap rapidly, putting intense pressure on Bagnaia and forcing him to push hard to secure the final points-paying position.

Reflecting on his performance, Bagnaia shouldered the blame for the sluggish start, admitting that his rear tyre only began functioning properly after seven laps. Once the rubber reached its operating window, his pace matched riders like Alex Marquez and Pedro Acosta, though the deficit accumulated early on proved too large to bridge.
Looking ahead to the main Grand Prix, the team is working diligently to extract more rear grip from the machine. Bagnaia remains focused on improving his initial laps to keep his championship aspirations alive as the series progresses through the flyaway rounds.
