Raúl Fernández Relieved After Securing Future: 'Now I Can Enjoy Riding More'

Raúl Fernández says he feels much calmer after officially extending his contract with Trackhouse Racing for the next two seasons. The Spanish rider can now fully focus on his performance aboard the Aprilia, which is currently in strong form.

The confirmation of his future came ahead of the British Grand Prix, ending one of the biggest speculations in the MotoGP paddock. Fernández revealed that the deal has given him peace of mind that was previously disturbed by contract uncertainty.

“I'm very happy because we've been working together since 2024 and our working dynamic is really good. Most importantly, everything will be new in the future, but I'll know my job and the team very well; that's the most important thing for me,” said Fernández. He added, “I feel at home, very relaxed, and that's crucial. Now we have a good opportunity this year, so let's maintain our level in the remaining races.”

Earlier, Fernández admitted that only his family and brother knew how difficult his situation was. However, he stressed that the difficulty was not solely about the contract, but the pressure to get back to the front. “Everyone started talking about the contract, but what I always tried to do was leave that to my manager and stay focused on riding. So, at that moment, I appreciated what my family did for me, because it wasn't an easy situation. But not because of the contract, rather other things,” he explained.

The moment his future became almost certain was at Assen. Since then, he has felt able to ride more relaxed. “At Assen everything was clearer. And from Assen until now I've been able to ride more calmly. Before, I was thinking too much during race weekends and that didn't help,” said Fernández. He admitted that almost all Aprilia riders in the first two races already had contracts, while he didn't, so his mind often wandered.

Now, his main goal for the second half of the season is to enjoy racing. “Before the contract was closed, I had worries and didn't really enjoy the situation or riding. Now I can enjoy it more. We have a very good bike, the team is ready and in a good moment, so we'll try to give our best. I don't want to think too far ahead, I want to go race by race,” he concluded.
