Driver Scott Pye has openly criticized the ongoing technical dynamics surrounding performance parity, stating that the category is chasing something unattainable amid continuous technical debates.

The remarks emerged after Ford squads received a last-minute power boost ahead of the race weekend. Recently completed barometric pressure testing resulted in the Ford Mustang entries receiving a larger air restrictor and revised camshaft timing to improve their engine performance.

The test results served as validation for Ford teams that had previously been denied changes last year when only half of the required testing protocol had been successfully completed by the organizers.

The barometric pressure testing followed two modifications made to the aerodynamics of the Chevrolet Camaro over The Bend weekend, which was subsequently followed by a re-testing of the centre of gravity.

“I think we’re chasing a bit of a ghost,” said Scott Pye, who set the second fastest time in Thursday’s co-driver practice session, as reported by Speedcafe. He added that certain objectives remain entirely unachievable in his opinion.

“There’s things that aren’t achievable in my opinion and I wish it was done behind closed doors and we weren’t up here talking about parity,” he continued, expressing his clear frustration regarding the constant public spotlight on technical balancing.

Meanwhile, Triple Eight team manager Mark Dutton praised Supercars for successfully completing the rigorous barometric testing process, which required significant upgrades to Hasted’s dyno facility.

“Hats off to Supercars,” Mark Dutton told Speedcafe, noting that the category is now among very few places in the world capable of conducting this advanced level of technical testing.

However, the extremely late nature of the testing process, which took place from Saturday through Tuesday, meant that Ford teams did not get the chance to test the new configurations on track prior to the event.

“The good thing is there was no problem with it,” said Mark Dutton regarding the seamless garage implementation, giving full credit to everyone involved in executing the demanding logistical turnaround.
